Professor Christina Paparcuri is a faculty member in the Accounting Department at Kelley.
What classes do you teach/have you taught at Kelley?
I teach BUS-A329 Taxes and Decision Making.
What do you enjoy most about interacting with Kelley students?
My students in A329 consistently impress me with their thoughtful questions about tax law in general and the rationale behind certain provisions in the tax code. I love watching students make connections between the topics we cover and seeing them apply what we learn in class about the tax law to their own personal situations. I also appreciate how each class feels like a community and that we are all working together to solve a problem or calculate a tax deduction.
Why did you choose to major in accounting?
I majored in accounting, and got interested in taxes in particular, because of its methodical, puzzle-like nature. To me, each transaction was like one little piece of the puzzle for which we would have to find the correct place. Eventually, each piece would fit together to make the big picture: a complete set of financial statements or a tax return.
Drawing on your experiences as a student and a faculty, what advice would you give to future Kelley Accounting students?
It’s never too early to start networking! Make connections with your peers and professors, join clubs like Beta Alpha Psi, and attend events where you can interact with professionals. Even if you don’t end up directly working with the people you meet right away, they might be potential clients, future colleagues, or lifelong friends.
