Alejandro is finishing up his Master’s in Accounting with Data Analytics (MSADA) at Kelley and will graduate at the end of this semester in May 2023. Alejandro also received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Kelley in 2022.
What is your favorite part of being an accounting student at Kelley?
My favorite part of being an accounting student at Kelley is the opportunity to apply my analytical skills and problem-solving abilities to real-world situations. It is incredibly satisfying to analyze complex financial data to identify trends and patterns that can inform business decisions.
Why did you choose to major in accounting?
Overall, for me, majoring in accounting was an excellent choice as a first-generation Latino student. With strong job prospects, competitive salaries, and opportunities for growth and professional development, accounting offers a path to a fulfilling and rewarding career.
Drawing on your experiences, what advice would you give to future Kelley Accounting students?
My advice to future Kelley Accounting students is to stay focused, get involved, and take advantage of all the available resources and opportunities. With hard work, dedication, and a commitment to your goals, I believe you can achieve great things in the field of accounting and beyond.
What are your plans for the future?
After graduating from Indiana University, I plan to enter public accounting as an auditor for PwC. Within the firm, my ultimate goal is to become a partner. I know that this will require a lot of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, but I believe that with the right mindset and work ethic, anything is possible. In addition to my career aspirations, I am also passionate about giving back and helping others in a similar position to me. I want to be a role model and mentor for other first-generation college students and minorities who are interested in pursuing a career in accounting.
Please tell us about your favorite activities at Kelley and IU.
My favorite activities at Kelley and IU include a variety of different things. I enjoy hanging out with friends and fraternity members at social events and gatherings, spending time with my significant other, and attending networking opportunities offered at Kelley.
What has been your favorite accounting class at Kelley?
My favorite undergraduate accounting class at Kelley was A100 – Basic Accounting Skills with Professor Vivian Winston. Professor Winston did a tremendous job introducing me to accounting and ultimately steering me toward my current career path. Her ability to break down topics and make them understandable for all students really helped me at the beginning of my journey at Kelley.
