In the fall of 2021, the Accounting Department Chair, Sonja Rego, created a faculty task force to focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. The task force’s mission is to increase feelings of inclusivity and belonging among Kelley Accounting students. One specific goal of the task force is to increase the number of students from historically underrepresented groups pursuing degrees in accounting and better support those students. After meeting regularly during the 2021-2022 academic year to brainstorm ideas, the task force has introduced some new initiatives. The first is a regular spotlight of Kelley students, faculty, and alumni beginning during the fall of 2022. The second is faculty workshops geared toward creating more inclusive classrooms.
These initiatives are just the beginning, and the task force wants to hear from you to better understand how we can further our mission. Do you have ideas about how accounting could attract, retain, and support a more diverse student body? Do you have questions about the many wonderful resources Kelley currently offers its students or suggestions to improve them? Do you know a faculty member who goes above and beyond to create an inclusive classroom experience that fosters a sense of belonging?
The task force welcomes all comments, feedback, and suggestions from accounting students, faculty, and alumni. Please feel free to reach out to any member directly or at acctdeib@iu.edu.
