Jacy Wobido is an undergraduate student majoring in accounting and finance at the Kelley School of Business.
What is your favorite part of being an accounting student at Kelley?
My favorite part about being an accounting student at Kelley is the support within the major. There are so many resources that Kelley offers, such as tutoring, available to the students. Additionally, the professors are always willing to help. I have never once felt like I couldn’t get help while taking an accounting class.
Why did you choose to major in accounting?
I chose to major in accounting after I took A100. I really enjoyed the class and found that I love the organization and structure to accounting. I felt that if I was able to dive deeper into all the rules, it would be beneficial and applicable to any professional career choice. I knew that I would get a well-rounded education with a double major in accounting and finance.
Drawing on your experiences, what advice would you give to future Kelley Accounting students?
My advice would be to not be afraid to speak up and ask for help. My freshman year, I spent an hour with a peer coach trying to learn how to make a balance sheet actually balance. After that session, I was able to do every problem on the midterm correctly. If I had not asked for help, that midterm would have gone a lot differently.
What are your plans for the future?
My plan for the future is to join the Investment Banking industry in New York City. It has always been a dream of mine to work in the city out of college. Having a few classes along with an understanding of the fundamental rules of accounting under my belt was extremely helpful in getting an internship.
Please tell us about your favorite activities at Kelley and IU.
My favorite activities at Kelley are all the wellness events during Balance Week. I love that Kelley places a big emphasis on mental health and sometimes they bring puppies to Hodge. In terms of favorite activities at IU, I like going to the tailgates and football games.
What has been your favorite accounting class at Kelley?
My favorite accounting class at Kelley was intermediate accounting with Professor PJ Hoffman. This class was even at 7:30am and it was still my favorite. PJ made it fun and tried to tie the concepts to real world application problems.
